Fascia Stretch Therapy® is an evidence based form of assisted stretching that improves flexibility of your muscles and fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that penetrates through an wraps around all your muscles, nerves, organs in your body. It is like a coat that helps absorb and generate force. Unlike methods that focus on stretching a single muscle in isolation, FST works by stretching along GROUPS of muscles that are held together by different nets of fascia. Unlike self-stretching and traditional stretching, it is also not painful, and enables us to stretch in angles that we cannot achieve when doing alone. It also lasts for longer than typical stretching, and in most cases, long-lasting changes can be achieved within 1-6 sessions.
Anyone who is looking to improve mobility and flexibility!
Particularly for athletes, it can help with recovery (you are only as good as you recover from your training), enhance performance and increase the range of movement needed for their training or sport. FST can also help with restrictions in the joint and tendons.
I have worked with dancers, professional fighters, competitive weightlifters and strength athletes.
I also work with scar tissue. Scar tissue can form deep adhesions that limit mobility and cause pain, including areas that seem unrelated to the actual scar. I have worked with clients who had scars from trauma and previous surgeries (hernias, breast implants or reduction, motor vehicle accidents, etc); who experienced acute and lasting relief after treatment.
Massage and FST are both effective ways to improve mobility. However, the way they achieve this is different. FST is an assisted stretch. Unlike massage, it is not painful. In FST, we do not move into pain or force against resistance, but gently ease and move the tissue into an increased range.
In my experience, FST is also beneficial for those who either 1. Dislike painful manual therapies 2. Have already tried most of the manual therapies that inevitably involve discomfort.
Anticipation of pain can result in further tightening of the tissues, which can exacerbate existing pain and further reduce flexibility. The body's natural response to protect itself is to brace and tense.
FST can help 'silence' and 'ease' this pain by quietening this search for anticipated pain.
As my clients have often heard me say... in FST, we gain, because there is no pain. It is the one time when you do not have to push through strong discomfort to progress, heal and elicit change.
I currently practice in Ashfield, Sydney Australia.
I do not offer any health funds rebates.
I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. A full charge for your treatment session will occur for cancellations within 24 hours before your booking or no shows. No fee will be charged for cancellations prior 24 hours before your booking.
